If you are on regular medication the doctor will give you a repeat prescription so that you do not need to see the doctor each month
to get your medicines.
HOW TO ORDER MEDICATION?
1. You can come in to the Surgery and drop your request slip to our prescription box every day between 8AM and 6 PM.
2. You can order your medication online on our website using a repeat prescription service provided.
3. You can phone our local pharmacy and they will order medication for you.
All medication requests have to be put in writing and WILL NOT BE TAKEN OVER THE TELEPHONE.
Repeat prescriptions will take 48 hours to process.
Please, always request you medication in appropriate advanced time. It is your responsibility to order medication on time.
The following pharmacies have an arrangement to collection prescriptions from our surgery:
Lindsay & Gilmour (previously Smiths) Craigmillar Pharmacy, Boots Cameron Toll, Boots Fort, Boots The Gyle, Boots Portobello, ASDA, Nuchem (Piersfield), Omni (Inch) Pharmacy, Newington Pharmacy, Lindsay & Gilmour (Moredun Park Road)
If the pharmacy that you use is not included in this list, but would like to be able to collect your medicines directly from them, then you will need to provide us with a stamped addressed envelope to post the prescription to them. It is likely that these types of prescription request will take longer than 48 hours because of the delay with posting.
Please note that we are no longer able to fax prescriptions due to a change in NHS Lothian policy.
In very urgent situations the barcode of a prescription can be phoned through to a pharmacy, but this is very time consuming and is only done in exceptional circumstances, as authorised by the GP. Please do not routinely ask the staff to do this for you.
If you require a medication that is not on your repeat prescription, but its been prescribed for you before, you may put in a 'special request' and the doctor will decide whether this can be issued without seeing the doctor again.
