PATIENT NOTICE - VERY IMPORTANT - PLEASE READ
From Monday 8th until Thursday 11th October the practice will be running a very limited service due to removal and replacement of our computer system.
What this means for you:
We cannot see patients except for absolute emergencies. Please do not ring during this time as we cannot give you an appointment
We cannot process prescriptions. if you know you will need a prescription at this time please submit it to us by Thursday 4th October at the latest so we can print off before the computers are removed.
Please do not attend for a blood test during this time as we will not be able to take it. You can come on Monday 8th, Thursday 11th or Friday 12th October instead.
Please be patient and bear with us during this time.
If you are on regular medication the doctor will give you a repeat prescription so that you do not need to see the doctor each month to get your medicines. You will be given a slip that needs to be handed in or posted to the surgery. Please remember to tick which items are required and to make the request in good time, particularly if sending by post.
You may also order your prescription via the website if you wish. Please click on the link on the home page and follow the instructions to register.
All medication required has to be put in writing and WILL NOT BE TAKEN OVER THE TELEPHONE.
Repeat prescriptions will take 48 hours to process. When the request has been processed you may collect it from the surgery, from one of the local pharmacists or by post if you provide us with a stamped addressed envelope. The following pharmacies have an arrangement to collection prescriptions from our surgery:
Lindsay & Gilmour (previously Smiths) Craigmillar Pharmacy, Boots Cameron Toll, Boots Fort, Boots The Gyle, Boots Portobello, ASDA, Nuchem (Piersfield), Omni (Inch) Pharmacy, Newington Pharmacy, Lindsay & Gilmour (Moredun Park Road)
If the pharmacy that you use is not included in this list, but would like to be able to collect your medicines directly from them, then you will need to provide us with a stamped addressed envelope to post the prescription to them. It is likely that these types of prescription request will take longer than 48 hours because of the delay with posting.
Please note that we are no longer able to fax prescriptions due to a change in NHS Lothian policy.
In very urgent situations the barcode of a prescription can be phoned through to a pharmacy, but this is very time consuming and is only done in exceptional circumstances, as authorised by the GP. Please do not routinely ask the staff to do this for you.
If you require a medication that is not on your repeat prescription you may put in a 'special request' and the doctor will decide whether this can be issued without seeing the doctor again.
Please allow 48 hours, excluding weekends and Bank Holidays, for your request to be processed. Any problems please telephone the surgery on 0131 322 2111
